Getting C3 Corvette hoods, in
Getting C3 Corvette hoods, in general, properly aligned and adjusted, can be challenging. But with enough patience anything is possible.
And sometimes, good fortune can be on your side and make a huge, positive difference.
My 1976 Corvette's hood was poorly aligned, but after a couple of hours of tiny adjustments and a lucky break, it is now “somewhat” misaligned, and that's a good thing.
I am not an expert when it comes to Corvettes, but that does not keep me from trying to make my Vette better, and the hood alignment—or lack thereof—has always bothered me, especially after taking it off the car during the radiator swap.
The whole project got started with my plan to detail the underside of the hood a "little." That quickly became a restoration project of sorts involving sanding, glazing putty, more sanding, primer, and yes, wet sanding, followed by a few coats of underhood back paint.
But why stop there?
I ended up replacing the hood weatherstripping, removing the old, ratty-looking hood blanket and associated retainers, and installing a new hood insulator by FatMat.

Upon installation of the hood with its new-looking underside, the alignment issue regained importance which forced me to do something about it.
However, the fact that I work alone made the project almost too much to deal with. I would adjust one thing and one or two others would become misaligned. And this problem can grow exponentially if you're not careful.
But knowing what to adjust can make all the difference, and this allowed me to get the hood looking pretty darn good.
Luckily for those of you going through a similar situation, I filmed most of the steps I followed to get my hood aligned as straight and even as possible.
I am sure there are better ways to get the same or even better results, but if anything I hope my videos will steer you in the right direction.
