How do the kriyas work?
Simultaneously tapping the forehead and the back of the skull stimulates the pineal gland, the only known gland that releases melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep patterns.

Tapping the temples while focusing on your breath helps dissolve habitual thought patterns.

Inhaling only through the left nostril and exhaling only through the right nostril activates the ida nadi, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system for rest and digestion thus welcoming sleep.

Grabbing the flesh in front of the armpit and squeezing opens up the channels so you can breathe more easily.

Tapping the feet moves the blood from the head to the lower extremities so the mind is calmer.

Yogananda was the author of the book 'Autobiography of a Yogi' where Kriya Yoga is mentioned often. Kriya was a closely guarded practice passed from guru to disciple, descended from Mahavatar Babaji. Today's variation Kriya has been transformed to suit the restless overthinkers of our time. Meditation happens without trying.

During your practice, it is normal to feel like coughing, burping, vomiting, yawning, laughing, crying, and vocalizing. Your body wants to release. Do not hold it in, let it all out.

If after or during Kriya practice you feel lightheaded or ungrounded lay on the ground on your belly with your forehead touching the earth, or come into the yoga posture called child pose.

Hello, I’m Xiu Lei (pronounced C U Lay). I was born and raised in California. I am an American of Chinese descent. My yoga and martial arts studies started at the age of 37. At the age of 49, I moved to Australia and began living a nomadic lifestyle, with opportunities to teach yoga as the determining factor to which country I’d be in next.
