In this video, I will explain the characteristics of the absorptive cells in the mucous membrane lining the small intestine, which make them successful in nutrient absorption, and the molecules (transporters, pumps, symporters) found in the apical and/or basal surface of these cells involved in the absorption of nutrients. Then, I will elaborate on the type of transport used to absorb the major monosaccharides (fructose, glucose, galactose), and a major electrolyte (sodium ion).
