In the previous episode, Jeff talked about traveling on commercial airlines with firearms. What happens when you get to your destination, and you're staying at a hotel? Know the local laws and know the rules of the hotel (check before booking). If you have to leave your gun behind in your room, do your best to deny others access to it. Put the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door. Abstain from room service or housekeeping. Do not leave the gun out in plain sight. If your hotel room has a safe, use it. Always bring a hard-sided case that can be cable-locked to a fixed object in the room. Identify a safe direction in your room, preferably an external wall, where you can point the gun during necessary handling. Nobody wants a negligent discharge going through a common wall into the room next door! If you have to evacuate your room in the event of a fire alarm, get dressed, put shoes on, and grab essentials you don't want to leave in the room - including your gun. Jeff always keeps these essentials in a grab-and-go bag. Keep your room's door LOCKED at all times. Have a "door opening protocol." If there's a knock, use the peep hole to see who's out there BEFORE you open the door. And think: Did you order room service? Call housekeeping for towels? Ask for maintenance? If necessary, call the front desk to make sure the hotel really sent a staff member to your room.
