Drunk Karen Drives Over Roundabout Before Slipping Out Of Handcuffs

On March 21, 2023, in the Village of Howard, Wisconsin, officers were notified of a reckless driver in the area. It was reported that the vehicle was all over the roadway and crossing all lanes of traffic. It was then reported that the vehicle had stopped in the middle of traffic and the driver appeared to be falling asleep. They eventually continued driving, backing into the 911 caller, and drove over a roundabout where the airbags were deployed.
It was immediately apparent to officers that the driver, named Beth, was impaired. She was asked to participate in FST's and was unable to complete the HGN test as well as the straight line walking test. As a result of her failure to complete the tests, Beth was placed under arrest under suspicion of OWI. She was placed in the back of an officers squad car.
While officers were filling out the required paperwork for a search warrant for her blood, Beth was able to get out of the handcuffs she was placed in. Officers then pulled her out of the car and onto the ground to get handcuffs back on her. She was given a resisting/obstructing charge due to this behavior.
Beth was transported to the hospital for an evidentiary blood draw and then taken to jail. Reports did not indicate her BAC. She was charged with OWI, 2nd, operating with prohibited alcohol concentration, 2nd, resisting or obstructing an officer, and hit and run. She was found guilty of all charges except operating with prohibited alcohol concentration and sentenced to 110 days in local jail in addition to her license being revoked for 17 months.
