President Biden railed against his doubters at an energetic campaign rally in Michigan on Friday night as he insisted he was “not going anywhere” despite mounting pressure from figures within his party to step down.
At the event in Detroit, Michigan, the 81-year-old president declared he was still running for re-election and would beat Donald Trump in November while his supporters repeatedly chanted “four more years” and “don’t you quit”.
Biden has fought criticism of his shaky performances at a series of public events over the past two weeks and is struggling to keep his campaign alive as it was reported that senior party figures including Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi discussed their concerns and top donors threatened to withhold $90 million of campaign funds unless he was replaced as the Democratic candidate.
