Recipe :
Urad Dal
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Serves :3-4

Ingredients:
1 cup Urad Dal (without skin)
Salt to taste
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp garam masala power
2 onions, sliced
2 large tomatoes, sliced
2” ginger, finely chopped
7-8 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4 tbsp ghee
2-3 green chilies, slit
2 tbsp chopped coriander
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 bay leaves
1 black cardamom
3-4 cloves

Method:
Wash well and soak the dal for 30 minutes.
Drain the water. Pressure cook the dal with 1 cup water, salt to taste, 1 tbsp oil and ½ tsp turmeric powder for 1 whistle. Allow the steam to release on. Its own.
Heat the ghee in a pan. add the cumin seeds and the whole spices and allow to splutter.
Add the sliced onions and sauté till golden. Add the chopped ginger, garlic and the slit green chilies. Sauté till fragrant. Add the red chili powder and mix. Add the sliced tomatoes and cook till soft but not completely mushy.
Add the cooked dal, mix well and reduce from heat. Add the garam masala powder, chopped coriander and mix well.
Serve.
