Ingredients (3-4 servings)
(to boil the dal)
1 cup white urad dal/split and skinned black gram, washed well and soaked in water for 4 hours then water drained out
4 cups water
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
(for making the tadka/tempering for the dal)
2 tbsp desi ghee/clarified butter or oil if you wish
1/4 tsp heeng/asafoetida powder
1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
1 medium-sised chopped onion
7-8 garlic cloves, chopped
1 inch ginger, julienned
1 green chilli, chopped
2 dry red chillies, chopped
1 medium-sized tomato, chopped small
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp deghi red chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tsp kasuri methi/dry fenugreek leaves
(to cook the dal)
the boiled dal as prepared above
1-2 tbsp hara dhania/cilantro
1/4 cup water + 1/4 cup added later, while cooking
1 lemon for juice
1 tbsp hara dhania/cilantro
