O Rāghava, even the bewildered, by their deep contemplation, convert poison in to nectar and nectar in to poison. The insect, out of fear, contemplating upon the assailant wasp, transforms into the wasp . Likewise, when a person meditates upon a certain thing, with great assiduity and firm conviction, quickly becomes that very thing.
If the body is, thought to be real, it appears, as a strong reality; but if the body is thought to be unreal, it becomes nothing.
O Rama, where is that body of yours, now, using which you travelled in all directions, during your dream state, while lying on your comfortable bed?
The dream body, does not exist in the waking state; and the body of the waking state, also disappears in the dream. All objects such as the body and so forth, of the waking and dreaming states, are contradictory to each other, and they come and go, therefore, they are unreal. However, only one "I", the Self, continues to remain, in all the states. By this type of discrimination, when the falsity of all objects, such as body and the rest, are ascertained, one rests only in the Self, which is of the nature of bliss alone.
This stability in one's own Self, is called liberation. When the concept of the reality, of the worldly objects is gone, there remains merely a semblance of the world. Then interactions, with the world of semblance, become only amusement, without any restlessness or suffering, just as one feels, by watching the false play of a magician or a movie in the theater. The discrimination of these three states, of waking, dreaming, and deep sleep, is the foundation of all Vedäntic scriptures. These three states, are our training school, created by the nature. With the help of discrimination, of these three states, human beings or individual souls, can accomplish their goal, of realizing the supreme Truth.
