Yoga Vasistha Sara 4.1-3 - The Self imagines objects and runs after them

एष स्वभावाभिमतं स्वतः सङ्कल्प्य धावति । चेतना स्वयमम्लाना सैवेह मन आत्मनः ॥4.1॥
Guru Vasistha said: The Consciousness itself is untainted, i.e. eternal, unchangeable, and beyond growth or decay. It itself, takes the shape of its own mind. This Self, out of its own volition, imagines objects according to its own wish and then, runs after them.                    
एतस्मात् सर्वगात् देवात् सर्वशक्तेर्महात्मनः । विभागकल्पनाशक्तिर्लहरीवोत्थिताम्भसः ॥4.2॥
From the power of imagination, of this all-pervading, all-powerful, supreme Brahman, multiplicity in this universe has arisen, just as waves arise from water. Like the waves are, nothing other than water, this universe is also, nothing other than Brahman.
अतः सङ्कल्पसिद्धेयं सङ्कल्पेनैव शाम्यति । येनैव जायते तेन वह्निज्वालेव वायुना ॥4.3॥
The effect dissolves into the cause, from which it was produced, like the flames of fire created by air, gets extinguished into the air. Therefore, the universe, which is created by resolution of the mind, gets dissolved, into those very mental resolutions.
Laghu Yoga Vasistha, 1.10 says:
वासना द्विविधा प्रोक्ता शुद्धा च मलिना तथा । मलिना जन्महेतुः स्याच्छुद्धा जन्मविनाशिनी ॥
The desires are of two kinds, pure and impure. The impure desires are, the cause of rebirth and the pure ones are, the cause of liberation. Śrī Rāmakṛṣņa Paramhans spoke about two type of maya. Vidyā māyā releases one from worldly bondage and avidyā māyā binds one, to the worldliness of lust, greed, ego, pride and so forth.
Mandukya-kārikā, 3.32 says:
आत्मसत्यानुबोधेन न सङ्कल्पयते यदा । अमन्स्तां तदा याति ग्राह्याभावे तदग्रहम् ॥
The mind always remains in action, to save the interest of the self, out of fear of some unwanted incident, that may happen, in its inactiveness. Mind thinks itself, the sole owner and protector of the Self. Gita verse 2.46 says यावानर्थ उदपाने सर्वतः संप्लुतोदके। तावान्सर्वेषु वेदेषु ब्राह्मणस्य विजानतः।। The extent of need of water, fulfilled by a well, is better served by a reservoir, similarly, the ability to protect one’s own interest, is better achieved, by the knower of Brahman. When the mind realises, that the power it exerts, actually comes from the Self and it would be better served, by treating itself only an agent of the Self, it becomes tranquil, in the absence of proactiveness. This is called no-mind.
