Here is the Hyderabadi qubooli biryani recipe of a chana dal/lentil biryani and a Muharram festival recipe.

Ingredients
2-3 tbsp oil
1.5 cup rice soaked in water for 30 minutes
3/4 cup chana dal/split Bengal gram soaked in water for 1 hour then the water drained out
50 grams dahi/yogurt whisked to make smooth
2 medium sized chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1 medium sized chopped onion
4 tbsp pudina/mint leaves
4 tbsp hara dhania/cilantro, chopped
2 onions, sliced and deep fried till crisp and brown
1/2 tsp corainder powder
2 tsp shah jeera
1 tsp deghi mirch/red chilli powder
3 tsp salt
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
15-20 strands of saffron soaked in 2-3 tbsp hot milk
1 tbsp rose water
2 black cardamom, crushed
2 green cardamom , crushed
1-inch dalchini/cinnamon stick
4 cloves
2 tej patta/bay leaves
2 tbsp desi ghee/clarified butter
1 cup for boiling the dal
1.25 liter water for cooking rice
