Champion runner and Speed Secrets squad leader explains why adding hill sprints to your training programme can transform your fitness. He then smashes out 18 reps up a savage 1:6 slope in preparation for upcoming big cross country championship races.
Alex likes to add at least a couple of hills session into his 14-day training cycle. One hill session is usually up to 20 max effort reps - lasting around 30 seconds. This builds muscular elasticity, power, coordination and technique. It refines running style by forcing you onto your toes, driving hard with your arms and generating good high knee lift.
This session is perfect for all events, from sprints to marathon.
