Steal 2 - Around the
Steal 2 - Around the Horn - Runner Out at Home Drill: This is a great drill to help you work on and develop a lot a softball skills. Stealing, sliding, making accurate throws, communication, base running and much more. You can turn this drill into a fun and exciting competitive game.

Setup of Drill: Divide your players into two teams. Have at least one pitcher and catcher on each team. One team will be the defence, set them up in the infield and the other team will be your offence. Set them up with their batting helmets, ready to base run. One player will start the drill on 1st base.

Step 1: The drill start when the pitcher throws the first pitch. As soon as the ball leaves the pitchers hand, the runner can leave 1st and attempt to steal 2nd base.

Step 2: Short Stop will cover 2nd base for the steal, and attempt to tag the runner. Base runner will always slide in to the base. Doesn’t matter if the runner is safe or out, the play continues. You are just practicing base running, stealing, sliding and your catcher throwing down to 2nd base to get the runner.

As soon as the tag is applied, runner should pop up and run to 3rd base, then to home.

Step3: At the same time, the Short Stop who applied the tag, will throw to the 1st baseman, who then immediately throws to the 3rd baseman, who then throws to 2nd base. This time the 2nd baseman will be covering the base, who then throws to 1st baseman, who then throws to home. (Hence Around the Horn)

If the base runner makes it home before the ball, makes it around the horn. The runner is safe and that team gets 1 point for that run. The next runner on the team goes, until all the baserunners have gone.

Rules of this Drill: After everyone has gone on that team, switch sides. The Defence now are the base runners and the offence, now become the defence. You can go as many rounds as you like. The winning team is the team with the highest points at the end.
