Creamy red velvet pudding and crunchy meringues shaped like bones.  Severed fingers cookies video: Halloween Party Treats:  Severed Fingers

Pudding:
3/4 cup white granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
3 cups milk
1 cup whipping cream
1/4 cup sour cream
2 tsp vanilla
2 tablespoons of liquid red food colouring or 1/4-1/2 tsp past food colour (enough to make the pudding red enough)

Meringues:
4 egg whites
1 cup sugar

To make the pudding:
In a medium sized saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder and salt. Whisk together to make sure there are no lumps.
Gradually whisk in the milk and cream and stir in the sour cream.
Heat over medium/high heat stirring constantly.  Heat until boiling and cook two minutes more until pudding gets thick.
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and food colour.
The original recipe tells you to strain through a sieve before putting into serving containers.  I didn't do this and the pudding was fine.
Pour into serving dishes and allow to cool for 5 minutes and then cover and refrigerate.  The pudding will thicken as it cools.

To make bones:

Beat egg whites until soft peaks form and then gradually beat in 1 cup of white sugar a little at a time.  Continue to beat on high until egg whites are glossy and stiff peaks form.
Transfer to piping bag or food storage bag with corner cut off.  Pipe bone shapes onto a cookie sheet covered with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
Bake at 200F for 2 hours.  If you have two cookie sheets in the oven at once, rotate them in the oven halfway through the cooking time.  Shut heat off and allow to cool in the oven for one hour.
Remove from oven, transfer to wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.  The bones will stay white even after baking.
