John Craig, USPTA Elite Professional, explains how and when to “step in” to your groundstrokes!

Key Takeaways:

We have heard coaches say “step into your ball, step in!”, countless times. The problem with this is that when players do that, their back foot goes into the air to counterbalance their forward momentum into the ball.

Instead, place your foot DOWN before you hit your groundstrokes. Place the weight on your back foot if you are hitting an open stance groundstroke. How can you do this? Hit open stance forehands to get used to having the weight on the back leg. After practicing this, you can then put your front foot in after stepping with the back leg.
