Studio Introduction video: Smart Studio - Introduction
This video shows the construction process from the beginning to the end of Smart Studio in Sutton, London.
This video highlights the processes and methods I personally decided to undertake for the construction of my own personal home studio. This is not a go-to guide for studio building - it is merely an example of my first studio build executed within a limited budget & availability of space. Being a home studio, this construct is 100% fit for purpose. However the location & scale of your project will determine the appropriate/legal methods to be undertaken for constructing & soundproofing a recording studio.
I get a lot of people asking about cost..it's just a hard one to answer is all, because anyone who has ever built something like this will tell you that you never really stop spending on it. Given the awkward shape and size of mine, ive spent quite a bit extra on acoustic treatment over the past year or so. However the core build cost me somewhere between £10,000 & £13,000. Had i paid a company to build the exact same thing, you'd be looking in the ball-park of £30,000+.
So get as much free help as you can!

Smart | Studio is made up of two rooms: one for monitoring, one for live sound. The live sound room is a room-within-a-room, the monitoring room is not. For the most effective soundproofing, a room-within-a-room structure is ALWAYS recommended for maximised* soundproofing. However, high-end soundproofing can STILL be achieved by safely applying as much mass as possible to existing surfaces, which was what I did with the monitoring room as losing space was not really an option. And I assure you, the results are quite astonishing!
