This video shows you how I have soundproofed my monitoring room in my recording studio using the natural, handcrafted "Smart Sound Panels" which are made of just TWO key materials:
- Triple-walled (or double-walled) cardboard sheets (each wall seperating an in-fill gap of 5mm)
- Kiln-dried silica sand
This is the most efficient means of soundproofing if building a room-within-a-room is not an option.
There are two primary scientific methods involved in the process of soundproofing. One of which is to break up noise-flanking by creating an air barrier between two rooms (the "room-within-a-room" concept), the other is to simply add as much mass as possible to a surface & disrupt the transfer of sound vibrations. The Smart Sound Panel utilises the latter concept to maximum efficiency by providing a mass of approximately 18kg/m2: nearly double the mass of any leading acoustic membrane on the market.
Smart Sound Panels are the safest and most efficient means of applying maximum mass to a surface area where the use of concrete is not an option. Not only do they attain an impressive mass, but their 15mm depth ensures MINIMAL loss of space, making them the ideal choice for smaller home studios or recording spaces.
I built my own recording studio from the ground up and was only able to attain a plot of land of 21ft x 9ft. I intended to make two rooms out of my structure, so unfortunately space was not an expendable resource. I spent months biding my time; studying the most efficient way of maximising space, sound-insulation, AND cost. By applying these panels on the ceiling, walls and floors, I managed to apply an extra TWO TONNES of mass to my studio structure. The results speak for themselves.
I am currently selling the Smart Sound Panel on Gumtree. All the panels are hand-made and every order is bespoke and tailored towards your needs. I spent a year and a half building my studio at all hours of the day and night & anybody who has done the same knows it is an incredibly laborious process that requires knowledge and patience. My intention is to provide a lending hand to anyone like me, who is looking to build their own dream recording or rehearsal space that truly deadens sound without breaking the bank.
