Treacle tart is the perfect
Treacle tart is the perfect sweet treat for the summer! This classic British dessert may have treacle in it's name, but traditionally treacle tart is made with golden syrup; a uniquely light and caramel-flavoured syrup! I show you how to make the pastry base at home, but you can save time and buy a pastry base from the store, if you wish!
Treacle tart deserves lashings of hot custard, or a dousing of double (heavy) cream, or a dollop of a vanilla ice cream!
Golden syrup is not an ingredient that can be substituted in this recipe, and I know not everyone can find golden syrup, so here's my golden syrup recipe! INGREDIENTS
400g (1 1/4 cup) golden syrup
60g (1/4 cup) butter
30ml (2 tbsp.) double cream (heavy cream)
2g (1/4 tsp.) salt
zest of a lemon
15ml (1 tbsp.) lemon juice
1 egg
1 egg yolk
140g (1 1/4 cup) breadcrumbs
1 pastry base - or see below!
Pastry
250g (2 cups + 2 tbsp.) flour
24g (3 tbsp.) icing sugar
2 egg yolks
44ml (2-3 tbsp.) cold water
140g (5/8 cup) butter, very cold or frozen
