Episode 3 of Fargo (FX) season 4 sees things heating up between the two organized crime families in 1950s Kansas City. The blacks - The Cannon Limited, and the italians - The Fadda Family. Led by Loy Cannon (Chris Rock) and Josto Fadda (Jason Schwartzman) the peace between the families is being tested. Gaetano goes behind his brother’s back and orders retaliation against the Cannon’s for a dispute over a local slaughterhouse. This leads to an attempt on Loy’s oldest son’s life, which will have to be answered in the next episode.

Oretta’s syrup of Ipecac pie plays a large role in the third episode. Swanee Capps eats it before going on a robbery with her partner Zelmera Roulette. She gets sick while they are robbing the Cannon headquarters. They are able to get away with the money, but three of his gang are killed leaving him thinking that the Fadda family was behind it. The two events happening on the same night makes Loy think they might have to go to war.

Josto and Gaetano continue to struggle for power now that their father is dead. Josto is the boss of the family, but Gaetano isn’t happy with his leadership style. These two will probably not be able to get along through the end of the fourth season, and it’s expected that one will be taken out of the picture. Oretta is pursuing Josto who she mistakenly thinks is courting her. These two may end up becoming a couple, but he’s already engaged to a local politician's daughter.

Timothy Olyphant made his Fargo debut as the US Marshal Dick 'Deafy' Wickware. He’s come to Kansas City looking for Swanee and Zelmera who are fugitives escaped from prison. He isn’t able to capture them in episode 3, but we’re sure he won’t give up easily.

Fargo season 4 also introduces two characters that exist outside the underground crime syndicates. Ethelrida Pearl Smutny (E’myri Crutchfield) and Oretta Mayflower (Jessie Buckley). Ethelrida provides us with a history lesson about the struggle for power over the 50 years since the Moskowitz Syndicate, made up of Jewish immigrants, set up shop at the turn of the century. Then the Irish Milligan Concern took over, until the Italian Fadda Family moved in.

The fourth season of Fargo, an American anthology black comedy–crime drama television series created by Noah Hawley, premiered on September 27, 2020, on FX, and will consist of 11 episodes. The season was originally scheduled to premiere on April 19, 2020, but this was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As an anthology, each Fargo season possesses its own self-contained narrative, following a disparate set of characters in various settings and eras, albeit in a connected shared universe centered around the Midwestern United States and the titular city of Fargo, North Dakota. The fourth season is set in 1950 in Kansas City and the story follows two crime syndicates as they vie for control. The cast is led by Chris Rock, who plays Loy Cannon, the head of a crime syndicate made up of black migrants fleeing the Jim Crow South who have a contentious relationship with the Kansas City mafia. Other cast members include Jessie Buckley, Jack Huston, Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw, and Timothy Olyphant.
