Episode 4 of Fargo (FX) season 4 sets things up for an escalation between the two organized crime families in 1950s Kansas City. The blacks - The Cannon Limited, and the italians - The Fadda Family. Led by Loy Cannon (Chris Rock) and Josto Fadda (Jason Schwartzman) the peace between the families is being tested. We also get a hint of the supernatural as Ethelrida Pearl Smutny (E’myri Crutchfield) encounters a strange ghost outside her room in the King of Tears Mortuary.

Across the street Ethelrida goes to take Oraetta Mayflower (Jessie Buckley) up on her offer of a cleaning job. Oraetta is having an intimate encounter with Josto who wants to see her boss Dr. Harvard dead. In episode 4 as Ethelrida starts her job she discovers a secret in the closet. She finds a stockpile of drugs, a collection of obituary clippings, and a collection of personal effects. All the evidence leads to Oraetta being a serial killer, and it’s only a matter of time until she realizes her neighbor knows.

Josto and Gaetano Fadda continue their sibling rivalry. Josto is the boss of the family, but Gaetano ordered a hit behind his back that caused tensions to rise with the Cannon family. These two will probably not be able to get along through the end of the fourth season, and in the fourth episode Josto puts his foot down. Gaetano had to back down, but it doesn’t seem like it will be long until things heat up again.

Timothy Olyphant returns to Fargo as the US Marshal Dick 'Deafy' Wickware. He’s still looking for the fugitives Swanee Capps and Zelmera Roulette who escaped from prison. He also has a threatening conversation with Gaetano and Constant Calamita in episode 4. Zelmare takes some of the money from the robbery and gives it to Thurman Smutney, and he goes to pay off the family debts. Loy Cannon realizes that he’s paying him with his own stolen money after he leaves, and his wife Dibrell knows that her sister’s involvement will make things dangerous for the family.
