In this video I have explained in brief about one of the glycolipid that is glycophosphatidylinositol or GPI. Glycophosphatidylinositol i.e., gpi acts as an anchor of a protein to the cell membrane. the greatest advantage of proteins using gpi as an anchor is they get a flexibility in their movement. Examples of proteins which uses gpi anchor is acetylcholinesterase, alkaline phosphatase, decay accelarating factor, CD59 and others.
