Mochitsuki is the ceremony in which the traditional Japanese rice cake is made. Usually, mochitsuki is performed at the end or beginning of the year, but some mochitsuki events are held at different dates.

The mochi itself, made of glutinous rice, is eaten all year round in different ways. It can be roasted, in soups or filled with sweet beans.

The ceremony featured on the video was held at the Ebisu Shrine of Kyoto.
