MedWish collects viable, in-date medical
MedWish collects viable, in-date medical products for our humanitarian efforts. These items are repurposed to improve lives locally and globally. But sometimes items that come through our doors can’t be used for our aid programs. When this happens, for whatever reason, we still try to keep them out of the trash. This is where Alternative Recycling comes in.
MedWish partners with animal shelters, schools, and other local agencies to repurpose these supplies in creative ways. And we offer them free. Think gloves, gauze, cotton balls, syringes, and all sorts of other items. We stock everything on a first-come, first-served basis for pick-ups.
Through Alternative Recycling, MedWish has kept 350,000+ lbs of surplus out of landfills and supported 129 organizations since 2007. Kitten Krazy, a cat shelter and adoption center, is one such partner. They’ve helped more than 7500 cats find forever homes in grateful families.
Founder Wendy Mirrotto couldn’t quantify exactly how much money MedWish has saved Kitten Krazy in time, but estimates it would be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
“From my perspective [I would say] how hopeful this is, how great it is to help the environment. But really, the bottom line for us is the amount of money that we have saved that allows us to grow,” she said. “[I] just want to make sure that they know how grateful, truly grateful me and all of my organization are to MedWish.”
We’d love to spread the word to any nonprofit who could benefit. The application is linked here (https://form.jotform.com/90495683029971) and includes a list of items that we often are able to provide to our partners.
