Nocturnal Panic attacks, waking up from a deep sleep in a state of panic can be alarming, horrifying and can even be debilitating for some. The terrifying experience can begin to associate bedtime and sleep, what is suppose to be our calmest period, with high anxiety.

Nocturnal panic attacks, or panic attacks at night, feel like daytime panic attacks and can include the same symptoms like a racing heart, sweating, trembling, hyperventilating, and a sense of doom. Surprisingly, night time panic attacks are different than night terrors and night mares, which both occur at different stages of sleep.

Nocturnal panic is very common among people with day time panic disorder. But, it is also seen in people with other anxiety disorders like social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and phobias. It is also seen in people with ptsd and depression.
