When I was 6 years old, my parents divorced, and I stayed with my mom.
She wasn't a loving mother, and things got worse after the divorce.
Since I was a child, she would physically punish me for just about anything, but the emotional abuse was even worse.
She would always tell me I was ugly and that no one would ever want to marry me. She said I wasn’t smart or good at anything, and I hated it most when she would say...
"I brought you into this world, and I can do whatever I want with you."
Seeing my friends with their moms, I couldn’t always help but wonder what I did wrong and how I could earn my own mom's love.
But as time went on, I accepted my situation and decided I would move out at 18.
When my mom found out, she said I wouldn’t last in any job for even five days and that I couldn’t come back home.
Luckily, I proved her wrong, and I’ve been living on my own ever since. Despite everything, I still visit her because people say she's my mom, and I should accept her.
But now, hearing that I'm getting married, she suddenly claims she has a problem and needs money.
I told her I can’t help, and her answer was that I should cancel my wedding and not be ungrateful, saying that I owe her my life.
My fiancé thinks it’s time to cut her off completely. Would it be wrong to make that decision?
