When it comes to the Battle of Normandy, one of the divisions that commonly gets overlooked is the 79th Infantry Division but these guys were engaged in some tough fighting in the summer of 1944. One of the actions that they were involved in was the taking of Fort du Roule, which sat upon a dominating feature in Cherbourg and was vital to the taking of the deep water port. Not one, but two Medals of Honor would be awarded to soldiers of the 79th for their bravery in taking the fort. Much to learn!
