Bodh Gaya in Bihar ,
Bodh Gaya in Bihar , is a holy place for the Buddhists . Under the Bodhie tree, Siddhartha became enlightened and became Buddha.
The Bodh Gaya town has numerous temples dedicated to Buddha , commissioned by many countries apart from India , like Vietnam, Thailand, China, Bhutan,SriLanka , Korea etc .
An important aspect of early Buddha life is his meeting with Sujatha ( a farmers wife from this area ) who offered Buddha his first nourishment after his long meditation . A large temple dedicated to this event is visited by many tourists including foreigners .
A large sleeping Buddha statue was recently commissioned (Nov 2023) and is now a polulat attraction .
The Mahabodhie temple complex is a very sacred place for Buddhists . A Bodhie tree is well maintained and pilgrims sit under its shade to meditate .
Large numbers of pilgrims from around the world visit this temple .
