Bhimbetka rock shelters are located
Bhimbetka rock shelters are located about an hours drive SE of Bhopal towards Itarsi in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India .
These caves / shelters were inhabited by the early humans some 30,000 years back .
Evidence of their daily living have been seen and documented during the last few decades .
When we visited on the morning of 28 th Feb 2024, it had rained heavily the previous night and the area was foggy .
Security guards arrived around 9 am and we were allowed to enter with them. .
One of the guards came with us and guided us thro the complete set of the shelters .
The access path are well laid out and one can walk easily on the cobble stone.
Important shelters are numbered and explained. But one will require a guide to show us around , otherwise we may miss some areas .
We were able to see how the early humans lived in this area ; also how they spent their time hunting, group dancing , painting , singing etc... all documented via their etchings and paintings .
It is quite a lengthy walk around and it took us an hour to complete the tour .
It was well worth the time we spent here .
