If you have never tasted these special Middle Eastern Date Rolls before,  then you are in for a special treat !  These delicious Date Rolls have a light flavour of cinnamon, a crunch of sesame seeds and the sweetness of dates all rolled into one.

They will melt in your mouth as soon as you put them in!   You try them once and am sure they will become your absolute favorite cookies with dates.

Ingredients :

For the dough:

Plain Flour/Maida - 135 Grams

Sugar   - 45 Grams

Butter   - 90 Grams

Water   - 1 Tablespoon +/-

Salt   - Pinch



For the Filling:

Dates   - 150 Grams

Butter   - 1 Tablespoons

Cinnamon Powder - 1/4 teaspoon

Sesame Seeds  - 1 Tablespoon (lightly toasted optional)

Method  :

Mix  butter and sugar.  Add a pinch of salt.  

Add flour and mix together till it forms breadcrumbs like texture,

Add 1 tablespoon of water and knead till a soft dough is formed.  

Cover with cling wrap and keep aside for sometime.

Blend together dates, butter and cinnamon powder.

Remove and add sesame seeds and knead.

Make small balls of the dough.

Make longish rolls of the dates.

Take a wax paper and flatten the dough on it to form a rectangle.

Add the roll of dates in the center and with the help of wax paper roll it into a longish roll.

Keep  the formed rolls onto a flat platter till all are done.

Take each roll and cut into two with a sharp knife.

Keep on a baking tray lined with wax paper.

Sprinkle little sesame seeds on the rolls.

Preheat oven to 170 deg C.  Bake for 12-15 minutes till slightly brown.

When out from oven immediately remove onto another tray to avoid baking further.

Can store in airtight container  for upto 10-12 days.

(PS: I got about 36 rolls – you can make them smaller or bigger as per your choice)
