Forget Ichiran Ramen, Hokkaido has the best ramen in Japan! We’re starting off our Hokkaido “Top 3 ramen” tour guide in the coldest city in Japan, Asahikawa, which reaches annual lows of -41°C (-41.8°F)! After trying Asahikawa Ramen for the first time at Asahikawa's famous ramen restaurant, Aoba, we can understand how the locals survive and stay warm in the coldest city in the country!

In today's travel vlog, we’re also showing you some of the most recommended “must-visit” sightseeing destinations in Central Hokkaido, from the brilliantly blue Shirogane Aoiike (Blue Pond) to its lavender fields in Biei, but today, we’re touring the flower fields with a twist to prove it’s possible to visit Hokkaido and enjoy the flowers in all seasons! (Locations & tourist information below 👇)

📍 RAMEN RESTAURANT
Asahikawa Ramen Restaurant Aoba Honten (旭川らぅめん青葉 本店)
https://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~aoba1948/

Aoba is a family-run ramen restaurant in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, that has been in business since 1947, spanning 3 generations of ramen chefs! Aoba is one of the two restaurants in Asahikawa which claims to be the founder of the original Asahikawa Ramen (a special “double soup” blend of seafood and vegetable stock with chicken and pork bone broth, which is considered to be one of Hokkaido’s “Big 3 ramen”) and draws huge crowds of locals and tourists daily with their indulgent, piping hot ramen. The ramen at Aoba is so popular, that the store owners have opened up neighbouring shops for hungry customers to wait out of the cold as there is almost always a queue outside, but despite the cold weather in this part of Japan, Asahikawa Ramen always stays deliciously hot because it is topped with an insulating layer of lard!

This ramen restaurant, which is conveniently located just a 7 minute walk away from Asahikawa Station makes for the perfect place to shelter from the harsh weather and stay warm in Japan’s coldest city (once you can get inside!) and is a must-try when visiting Hokkaido!
