Vanlife Japan Ch 52: Shirahama (White Beach)
In today’s life in Japan vlog, we’re leaving Osaka and driving to the beautiful coastline of Wakayama Prefecture.
From places of outstanding natural beauty at the geopark and white sands to rival Okinawa to unique ramen accompanied by individually leaf-wrapped sushi, Wakayama is as much of a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach. Come along on our japan trip to help plan your next journey!
📍LOCATIONS
Engetsu Island (円月島)
Engetsuto Islet is an iconic landmark of the Kii Peninsula and offers gorgeous sunset views between its rock tunnel.
Sandanbeki Rock Cliffs (三段壁)

Sandanbeki Rock Cliffs are 50 meters high, 2km and house a shrine 39m below ground in a sea cave, which can be accessed by a subterranean elevator!
Senjojiki Rock Plateau (千畳敷)

Senjojiki is a sandstone plateau that has been eroded by waves to produce the shape of 1000 tatami mats, perfect for a spot of sea fishing!
Shirarahama Beach (白良浜)

Shirarahama is Waikiki’s sister beach and boasts some of the whitest sands in Japan and is the first beach to open for swimming season in the entire country. Even in the gale force winter winds, the crystal blue sea was warm enough to swim, so we can see why it’s known as one of Japan’s most popular beaches!
