This is a fasting recipe. Steaming, hot varai rice with spicy, tangy and sweet peanut gravy!! What a combination!! Simply mouth watering and easy to make. Do give it a try in this navaratri.

Ingredients:

For Varai Bhat:
• 1 tsp Ghee
• 1/2 cup Varai
• 1 1/4 cup hot Water
• Salt to taste

For Amati:
• 1 cup Roasted peanut powder
• 2~3 Green chillies
• 1 tsp Ghee
• Cumin seeds
• 2~3 Cinnamon sticks
• 4~5 Cloves and Black pepper
• 1/2 glass Water
• 1 tbsp fresh grated Coconut (Optional)
• 1 tbsp Tamarind sauce
• Jaggery to taste (or Sugar)
• Salt to taste
• Finely chopped Coriander leaves.

Method:

For Varai Bhat:
• Heat ghee on medium heat. Add varai and roast on medium
  heat for 2-3 minutes.
• Add hot water and mix well. Add salt and stir well. Bring it to
  boil.
• Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes.
• After 8-10 minutes remove the lid and check.
• If varai is cooked well turn off the heat.
• You can increase the quantity of water if you want the rice  
  softer.
• Varai cha bhat is ready.

For Amati:
• In a blender pot take roasted peanut powder and green
  chillies.
• Add some water and blend it into paste.
• Heat a ghee on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them
  pop up.
• Add cinnamon, cloves, black pepper. Roast for 15-20
  seconds.
• Add the paste of peanut powder and green chillies.
• Add water, fresh grated coconut, tamarind sauce, jaggery (or
 sugar) and salt. Mix well.
• Cook on medium heat for 5-7 minutes.
• Garnish with coriander leaves. Amati is ready.
