Advanced macular degeneration affects central vision and can cause difficulty reading or recognizing faces. In the most severe end stages, nearly all of this fine vision can be lost. Fortunately, there is a specialized telescope that is available to improve vision in these patients. Watch this episode of A State of Sight with Isaac Porter, MD to learn more about the implantable miniature telescope for macular degeneration.

This telescope is great technology that enlarges images in one eye to take advantage of the intact more peripheral vision to see fine details. It is placed in the eye in a manner similar to cataract surgery by removing the natural lens of the eye.
