Limbal relaxing incisions (LRIs) can reduce astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery. Now that the femtosecond laser is being used for some of the steps of cataract surgery, there has been a renewed interest in arcuate keratotomy (AK) incisions created by laser. Both LRI and AK techniques are used to flatten the steep area of the cornea while also having a steepening effect 90 degrees away.
