Various functions and sub-functions of the physical world like creation, nurturing and destruction are performed by entities called devatas (deities) who are fundamentally not different from God. We may call them by different names or recognise them in various forms, but the essence is the same. Once king Akbar, annoyed by Birbal's delay in reporting in the court demanded an explanation on the plurality of devatas (deities) when he claimed God to be one. Birbal, who was late and seemed to be in a fix, soon pleased the Emperor with his witty explanations giving relevant examples. What did he do? How did he convince Akbar? Watch the episode. Our next tale takes us to the house of Gora Kumbhar (a potter) where we see Namdev and Jnanadev along with some others. During the conversation, Jnanadev asked Gora how he determined whether a pot was well baked. Gora mentioned that he would hit the pot with a stick to ascertain if the pot was well baked. On the request of Jnandev, Gora examined the spiritual ripeness of all the pots by hitting them with a stick. All except Namdev passed Gora's test. The devotee of the Lord, with whom Lord Vitthala would converse, had failed a spiritual test. What did Namdev lack in? He had to meet Visoba Khechar to find out. But was his meeting with Visoba a usual meeting? Find out in episode 38 of Upanishad Ganga.
