The Darkroom is a very ancient spiritual practice, it is more than 4000 years old. Taoists say that darkness is the beginning of light. When you focus looking into the darkness until it gets very dark, the true light comes in.
In Darkroom you experience complete stillness, reset your biological clock and access higher states of consciousness and wisdom, connecting with your inner-self and the Universe outside.
All spiritual traditions have used the Darkroom meditations in order to balance the energy of pineal and pituitary glands and to connect with the outer forces of the Universe.
Tibetans used it for healing and Egyptians used the Dark Rooms in the Pyramids as connections with other dimensions.
The Essenes used the caves near Dead Sea in Israel to reconnect with their hearts. The Himalayan Masters are using the dark caves of the mountains as places for ascension.
The Hesychast Monks living in Mount Athos or Carpathian Mountains from Romania and Ukraine were frequently using the dark caves or dark rooms for praying in the heart meditation and connection with the divine spirit.
In ancient times the idea of the Darkroom came from the observation of animals’ behaviour: when the animal is injured, it hides in a cave or another dark place to heal its injuries and rebuild the body.
The same thing was observed with humans: people with mental or physical disorders got better or experienced a full recovery after spending some time in darkness, alone with their thoughts and inner-self.
This year the participants of the online Winter Retreat will create Darkrooms in their own houses taught by Mantak Chia how to do it.
