3 TERRIFIC TEARDROP MOVES from BJ Gaddour, former Men's Health fitness director and MetaShred creator!
The lower inner quad muscle (aka the “teardrop” or VMO) is a critical muscle to develop for knee health and stability. My VMO’s have always lagged behind my other quad muscles from a history of knee injuries playing football when I was younger. So I always prioritize this muscle in my own training. It’s also the only quad muscle you can actually see when wearing shorts or a swimsuit (unless you wear nut-huggers like I do). So there are some legit aesthetic benefits too!
Though you don’t need to add the thick band shown in the videos, it does 2 things: One, it helps pull your knee forward to improve ankle mobility and VMO activation. Two, it provides horizontal resistance for a monster quad squeeze at the top of each rep (TKE or terminal knee extension).
Give any combo of these 3 moves a shot at your next leg training sesh:
1. Banded Close-Stance Ipsilaterally-Loaded Bulgarian Split Squats
2. Teardrop Toe Taps
3. Banded Slow-Mo Cross-Over Stepups
