Braised beef shank is a popular Taiwanese appetizer. The beef shank is braised for a long period of time (about 2 hours) in easy-to-make spiced liquid to absorb all the flavorful goodness. Often served cold along with pickled vegetables, Taiwanese braised beef shank is especially perfect to eat during warmer month.

Ingredients:

Roughly 1 lb. of beef shank (whole or cross-cut)
8 cups of water
2 tbsp. of rice wine
3/4 cup of soy sauce
4 tbsp. of sugar
1 bag of Five Spice (or 1 tsp. of Five Spice powder or 1 star anise)
3 green onions
Ginger (8 slices)
