Starting Strength is a well known and highly successful program for introducing complete novices into the world of barbell strength training. Simple linear progression programs like Starting Strength are simple and easy to follow, but will run  their course quickly as novice lifters transition into intermediate territory. Here, I compare Starting Strength with the Texas Method to explain the principles that separate novice programs from advanced ones.
