Opening The Coffin Of Oliver Cromwell

One of the most controversial figures in English History was Oliver Cromwell. He was the man who defeated the King's forces during the English Civil War, and was a key player behind the execution of King Charles I. But following Cromwell's death, the former Lord Protector was buried inside of Westminster Abbey and he was given a 'King's funeral.' But he would not be laid to rest long inside of the famous church.

Oliver Cromwell's remains were dug up and he was disinterred from his grave as King Charles II had ordered his posthumous execution. With this his coffin was opened and his body was then taken to Tyburn where it was hanged in chains before it was cut up. It was a shocking end for the man who many regarded as almost like a King.
