The King was executed following his trial and the executioner's axe would take the King's head in one blow. But 200 years after the execution, the coffin of Charles I was broken into and opened in the presence of the Prince Regent.

It was found that the head of King Charles which had been sewn back on had fallen off as the thread holding it had perished, and those who witnessed the opening of the King's coffin were shocked to see that his appearance was rather life like.
