VN24 - 05.03.2022 - Unna / Germany - In a very serious traffic accident on the B1 federal road (Werler Straße) in Unna, only about 200 meters from the city border with Werl, a 56-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman did not survive a head-on accident. Another female (46 years) was still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but succumbed to her injuries only a few hours later.
Around 17:05 h, the 56-year-old was driving his silver Audi A3 on Werler Straße coming from Unna, heading east towards Werl. For as yet unexplained reasons he came with his car off to the left of his lane and steered into the oncoming traffic. Here he collided head-on with an oncoming dark blue Audi A3, which was occupied by two women. The silver Audi caught fire after the collision and subsequently burned out completely. Eyewitnesses and good Samaritans were able to pull the people involved out of their vehicles at the risk of their lives and provided first aid until the Unna fire department arrived and took over the rescue work. Due to the proximity to the city of Werl, the Werl fire department was also deployed to the scene of the accident. The fire department of Werl illuminated the scene of the accident in the evening and took press photos, which was sent directly from the scene of the accident online via Internet to the surrounding newspapers. The scene of the accident was surveyed by a police accident investigation team and experts from DEKRA (a German Motor Vehicle Monitoring Association) until late into the night to preserve evidence, and aerial photographs were taken using drones. A salvage company then picked up the wrecked vehicles and took care of cleaning up the accident site on its own.
