Season 4 of Fargo (FX) has brought the story of Kansas City in the 1950s to an end. Loy Cannon (Chris Rock) cuts a deal with Ebal Volante (Francesco Acquaroli) to end the gang war, but in the end the Italians don’t hold up their end of the deal. They know they have the power of New York behind them, and that the Cannon’s time is over. Loy accepts his defeat, and has a brief feeling of acceptance and relief when he sees his family all safe at home together. He thought his son Satchel, who exchanged with the Faddas to keep the peace, was killed by Josto’s men. So, he was elated when the boy returned home.

In the Fargo season 4 finale Josto Fadda (Jason Schwartzman) is accused by his own men for crimes against the family. Ebal was given his father’s ring which Loy got from Ethelrida Smutny (E’myri Crutchfield). He was able to use that to convince Josto’s men that he had his own father killed, and Oraetta Mayflower (Jessie Buckley) admitted that she killed Donatello because Josto asked her to. Both Josto and Oraetta are executed by Joe Bulo, and Ebal takes over the Fadda Family running it like a corporation.

Ethelrida used the ring to get her family free of the Cannons. After reading her history report that made up the fourth season of Fargo, showrunner Noah Hawley says she left town. He said the Smutnys got a true happy ending. With Ethelrida realizing she couldn’t thrive in America, she left for Paris where she would become a writer.

The mid-credits scene in episode 11 confirms that Satchel Cannon will grow up to be Mike Milligan from season 2. We realize that he remembers being raised by Rabbi with the Faddas, losing him, and then returning home to see his father Loy die. Later in life he goes to work for the Kansas City Mafia, which is what Ebal turned the Fadda family into. He ultimately works for the organization that brought his father down.

The fourth season of Fargo, an American anthology black comedy–crime drama television series created by Noah Hawley, premiered on September 27, 2020, on FX, and will consist of 11 episodes. The season was originally scheduled to premiere on April 19, 2020, but this was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As an anthology, each Fargo season possesses its own self-contained narrative, following a disparate set of characters in various settings and eras, albeit in a connected shared universe centered around the Midwestern United States and the titular city of Fargo, North Dakota. The fourth season is set in 1950 in Kansas City and the story follows two crime syndicates as they vie for control. The cast is led by Chris Rock, who plays Loy Cannon, the head of a crime syndicate made up of black migrants fleeing the Jim Crow South who have a contentious relationship with the Kansas City mafia. Other cast members include Jessie Buckley, Jack Huston, Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw, and Timothy Olyphant.
