Episode 9 of Fargo (FX) season 4 starts off in color, but as we get away from Kansas City things shift to black and white. Loy Cannon’s (Chris Rock) son Satchel has been taken into hiding by Rabbi Milligan (Ben Whitshaw). When Josto Fadda (Jason Schwartzman) ordered a hit on Satchel, Rabbi stepped in to save him, and now he’s not safe in KC. The two of them make their way to Liberal, Kansas, but we learn that Omie Sparks, and Constant Calamita are also in pursuit.

Episode 9 is a self contained story. We don’t see the Fadda or Cannon families at all. We don’t see Oraetta Mayflower (Jessie Buckley), or Ethelrida (E’myri Crutchfield) or the rest of the Smutny family. We’ll have to wait to wait until episode 10 to see how things are escalating in the gang war. Constant and Omie were both swept away by the tornado, so both families will be without some of their muscle.

There are a lot of references to the Wizard of Oz in episode 9, and it seems nearly certain that Satchel will grow up to be Mike Milligan. Rabbi did his best to protect the child, but in the end he was killed leaving him to fend for himself. It’s the end of Rabbi’s story, but there will probably be more about Satchel’s before the end of season 4.

There are just two episodes of Fargo’s fourth season left. There are a lot of unanswered questions that episodes 10 & 11 will hopefully tie up. It’s possible most of the Cannon and Fadda concerns will be wiped out, and a showdown between Oraetta and Ethelrida is expected.

This video takes a deep dive look at everything that happens in episode 9 of Fargo season 4. We discuss the new characters, and explain the story up until this point. We talk about where the fourth season might be heading, talk about our Fargo theories, and discuss Coen Brother references we noticed. Let us know in the comments what easter eggs you found and what your favorite theories are for the rest of the season.

The fourth season of Fargo, an American anthology black comedy–crime drama television series created by Noah Hawley, premiered on September 27, 2020, on FX, and will consist of 11 episodes. The season was originally scheduled to premiere on April 19, 2020, but this was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As an anthology, each Fargo season possesses its own self-contained narrative, following a disparate set of characters in various settings and eras, albeit in a connected shared universe centered around the Midwestern United States and the titular city of Fargo, North Dakota. The fourth season is set in 1950 in Kansas City and the story follows two crime syndicates as they vie for control. The cast is led by Chris Rock, who plays Loy Cannon, the head of a crime syndicate made up of black migrants fleeing the Jim Crow South who have a contentious relationship with the Kansas City mafia. Other cast members include Jessie Buckley, Jack Huston, Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw, and Timothy Olyphant.
