Hey, everyone. My name is Felicity and about a year ago I found out that my first love is my stepdad!
This whole story is crazy, so let’s start from the beginning.
When I was 15, my parents went through a rough divorce. It was brutal. They were even arguing over who was gonna take the silverware and who was gonna take the pans! I saw my two loving parents turn into complete monsters. This is where my mind went “Oh, this is what love looks like.” My father moved out and I was living with my mom. For the next couple of years, she wasn’t seeing anyone—she mainly went to work and stayed at home.
For me, well, it was a completely different story. I was 15, developing curves, and the boys were going crazy! Don’t get me wrong, I loved the attention I was getting. The thirsty looks, comments, everything about it. But while other girls were dreaming about romance, I was disgusted by it. In my mind, it all led to heartbreak and disappointment. So I was mostly just fooling around with guys. The only guy I actually felt connected to was Benedict. He was 3 years older, already finishing high school. His parents were divorced, too, and he was the only one that I’d get serious with. And then he tried to screw it all up.
It was the end of the school year, when he was already planning on moving to another state. He asked to meet me in the park, in our usual place. As soon as I met him, I felt that this time was somehow different. “Hey, Felicity, can I get real for a second?” he said and we sat down on the grass. “I know we always imagined ourselves being free from boundaries and heartbreaks, marriage and all that, so I’m only gonna ask you this once. Would you, by any chance, want to be in an actual relationship with me?” I was stunned. I felt like if he really knew me, he wouldn’t even ask that kind of question! I immediately said no and that I didn’t want to hear about it ever again. And I didn’t. Actually, I didn’t hear from him for a long time, for about three years. But I’ll get back to that.
For some time, losing him didn’t feel like a big deal. I hung out with other guys. Like Jason, who loved the idea of having this open relationship with no labels, no nothing. But after a while, he got really protective and jealous. Sometimes even aggressive, so I had to break it off with him. The worst thing was, it seemed like all this inspired my mom to go out more. By the time I was 17, she started living this strange polyamorous life. Nearly every morning, I’d go have breakfast and see a different middle-aged half-naked guy eating a sandwich. And she wasn’t hiding it! Our walls were pretty thin, so during the night, I’d put on my earphones ‘cause I sure as hell didn’t want to hear my mom being THIS KIND OF happy.
But one of these times just struck me to my core. It was getting close to my graduation day. I woke up early and as I was cooking myself breakfast in my pajamas, I heard footsteps. I turned my head and saw...JASON!
