March 2002 - a visit to the Light Rail Transit system centred around the Tuen Mun district of the North Western part of the New Territories Hong Kong. The video starts at the Tuen Mun Ferry Terminus where the points are manually operated.
As the population of the North Western New Territories grew due to the creation of new towns in the late 1970s, the HK Government decided that an integrated light rail system would best meet the area’s transportation needs. Built and operated by the then Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation in 1988, the LRT is now part of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation.
The Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) seen in the video were built by Comeng and Goninan of Australia and Kawasaki of Japan.
