Grouping the customers with similar preferences into one segment is called segmentation.
Division of market into several segments is called market segmentation.
The concept of market segmentation assumes that no two buyers are identical in all respect.
They may differ on the basis of age, gender, income, education, profession, life style, social class, religion, cultural factors, etc.
Definition:
According to Alan A. Robert,
Market segmentation is the strategy of division markets in order to conquer them".
According to Cundiff and Still,
Market segmentation is the grouping of consumers according to some common characteristics as income, age, degree of urbanisation, race or ethnic classification, geographic location or education.
