Some people think that marketing management and sales management serve the same purpose. #marketing #sales #difference
but there is a many difference between these two.
marketing management is a process which includes analysis, planning, organising, implementation and controlling the marketing programmes for the satisfaction of customers.
Sales management is related to planning, organising and controlling the personal selling functions.
Concept:
marketing management is a new concept and selling management is an old concept.
Scope:
scope of marketing management is wider. It includes activities from the beginning, knowing the needs of customers, till the satisfaction of their needs .
Scope of sales management is narrow.
It includes the activities connected with transfer of ownership of goods from seller to the buyers.
Objective:
Objective is to maximise consumers satisfaction and to utilise the available resources to maximise profitability.
Objective to maximise the sales. The emphasis is on increasing the sale and not on the satisfaction of the consumers.
Orientation:
Marketing management is customer oriented.
Sales management is seller oriented.
Profit:
Long term profits with increasing customer satisfaction.
Short term profits with increasing the sales volume.
Functions:
Functions starts much earlier to actual production in marketing management.
Functions starts with or after the production of goods in sales management.
Satisfaction of needs:
Lays more emphasis on the future needs of the customers.
Lays more emphasis on the immediate needs of the customers.
Time:
Marketing management Originated after the end of 20th century.
Sales management Originated after the industrial revolution.
Part:
Marketing management is a part of general management.
Sales management is a part of marketing management.
