What is a PhD in Healthcare Administration? Generally, there are two types that you might pursue, one that is in a Public Administration school, and one that is in a Business School.

What you are looking for is those that are interested in understanding how healthcare operations, and healthcare strategy occurs.

This is a bit closer to my research, and I just wanted to share what I have learnt. My research is a bit odd because I study medical device firms, and this is not really hospitals, which is what most people study. Also, I study innovation in healthcare, which is only a small part of healthcare.

Generally, if you are looking to do a PhD in any healthcare topic, you can go to any Business School, or find people that are doing research on the topic that you are interested in healthcare.

Here are some schools that I think are doing cool research (forgive me if I didn’t mention your school - I wrote this pretty quickly).

Harvard and the other Boston schools (Brandeis, Boston U, MIT) have some awesome people that are doing great research. For example, Amy Edmondson and Gary Pisano produces great PhD students and have studied many topics of working in hospitals.
Wharton (U. Penn) has interesting people that are doing research in healthcare. Lawton (Robert) Burns, for example, is doing research on medical device industry.
Duke. They have a strong connection with the medical school.
U. of Toronto, where Will Mitchell is working is a great program.
Stanford U. has some interesting people that are doing research in that area.

But, you ought not to get caught up in the programs that are about Healthcare. You should be able to do research on healthcare in an PhD program. Healthcare is a context (a rich and interesting context), but you will apply other fields to understand how the healthcare industry works.

My point is that you ought to look around and identify people that are interested in the research, and the institution does not matter as much, but you want to look for the right person that is investigating the Business of Healthcare.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.

https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform

A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.

The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
