In this video, we go over the various forms of animation cancelling you can do in the game.

The concept behind animation cancelling is to cancel the animation of whatever skill or ability you are using. This does not make you perform abilities faster: you are still limited by the global cooldown in the game (hard coded to be approximately 1 second between abilities). But it makes your rotation more fluid and in some instances, adds more DPS or provides other utility.

Light Attack Animation Cancelling (aka weaving): You cancel the animation of your light attack by using an ability between each light attack. This form of animation cancelling is the most common and most useful to learn, since it essentially allows you to double the number of hits you can get in. It's essential for high DPS in PvE content, and helps in PvP to deal more damage and proc enchants.

Barswap Cancelling: You cancel the animation of an ability by barswapping. This is another common form of animation cancelling used in PvE to avoid long animations on certain abilities like Unstable Wall and certain ultimates.

Block Cancelling: You cancel the animation of an ability by blocking. Less commonly used in PvE but fairly common in PvP, this allows you to get some block mitigation between ability casts, but lowers overall stamina regen since you can't regen stamina during the block animation.

Bash Cancelling: You cancel the animation of an ability by bashing. A bit more difficult to do on console, but relatively easy on PC due to being able to rebind abilities. Essential for stamina DPS running Maarselok, and can be a good source of additional DPS for magicka DPS. However, it also drastically decreases stamina sustain due to the cost of bashing.

Dodge Cancelling: You cancel the animation of an ability by dodge rolling. Rarely used in PvE, fairly common in PvP, it allows you to use an ability and then dodge any ability used back at you. Really good in PvP to deal damage while also avoiding incoming damage, but can be costly on your stamina.
